Sam, a 27 year-old singer, declared they were of a non-binary gender last September and explained the correct pronoun would be "they/them" when making reference to the musician.
Now, the star reveals that their mum often trips up and uses the "he/him" pronoun.
Speaking on Australian talk show 'The Project', Sam said: "I say to my mum all the time - she will be calling me 'he and him' and she is getting angry at herself and it's OK."
Sam opened up about their pronoun choice last year after a long struggle.
The singer wrote: "Today is a good day so here goes. I've decided I am changing my pronouns to THEY/THEM after a lifetime of being at war with my gender I've decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out.
"I'm so excited and privileged to be surrounded by people that support me in this decision but I've been very nervous about announcing this because I care too much about what people think."
