The actor wed his longtime partner Anna Ebersteain, with whom he has three children, last year after previously being against the idea of tying the knot.
Speaking in a recent interview, Hugh admitted he was put off the prospect of marriage for many decades.
The 'Love Actually' star told The Chris Evans Virgin Radio Breakfast Show: "Well, I was just plain wrong.
"I was wrong.
"And children, you know, I used to roll my eyes.
"People would say, 'Oh Hugh you don't understand it', but they were right."
Hugh also spoke of his wedding day, adding: "It was a very small affair, that's all.
"It was very nice getting married.
"It was another thing I put off too many decades. Very nice. Very nice being married."
The star also has two children with his ex-partner Tinglan Hong.
