The couple will welcome their bundle of joy later this year and the 38-year-old 'Downton Abbey' star said his wife is doing "brilliantly" with the pregnancy.
He told Page Six: "She's incredible as all these changes occur and it's very exciting for both of us.
"I'm mostly excited about this amazing little life that will teach me as much as I'll teach it."
Allen explained that his siblings have set an excellent example of how to raise children, saying: "My siblings are all parents and they're a wonderful example of parents and the bar is set very high to be as good of parents."
Allen and Jessica have found out the sex of their impending arrival, but have chosen to keep it to themselves.
