The Busted star had been to rehab for alcohol and drug addictions twice before the pair tied the knot in 2008, but didn't get sober until after the wedding and used to cringe looking back at pictures from their big day.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I was a massive, bloated, wreck-head.
"I looked terrible. I've burnt the pictures. I looked like a competition winner stood next to Emma."
In July 2018 the pair, who have three children together, marked their tenth wedding anniversary with a vow renewal ceremony, in which Emma and the female guests wore their original wedding gowns.
Matt spoke of his relief of being able to get a picture with his wife that he was proud of.
He said: "I redeemed myself. If I'm honest, that's why I said yes to the whole idea. I needed a good picture of me and Emma in that wedding dress, because she looked amazing."
