The showbiz couple have been married for 19 years and the former footballer spoke about their family life in an interview for Australian TV show The Sunday Project.
"To have been married for the amount of time that we have, it's always hard work.
"It becomes a little more complicated."
The pair have four children together and fatherhood is an experience that David said taught him to appreciate the little things in life.
Fashion designer Victoria, 44, recently insisted that they are much better-off together.
"It's all about the family unit," she said.
"We are much stronger the six of us, than we would be if we were individuals. We respect that family bond and that is key."
