Speaking at the Pride Talks Back event in Belfast she said: "The denial to our LGBT+ citizens of marriage equality is unacceptable, unsustainable and wrong. Politicians must show the leadership required to bring about legislative change.
"The change in Irish society, north and south, has already taken place. Ireland is changing. The rights to marriage equality is embraced and enjoyed everywhere else on these islands.
"The real problem is that some political groups have not caught up with society and they refuse to do so. Let us speak frankly. The DUP has set its face squarely against the right agenda. They can prevaricate but they cannot prevail.
"In the absence of the political institutions, it is a matter for both British and Irish governments to ensure that the rights of the LGBT+ community in the North are fully vindicated.
"The British Irish Intergovernmental conference met last week, it will meet again in the autumn and it must resolve the outstanding rights issues including the right to marriage equality.
"As Leader of Sinn Féin, let me be very clear, we will not stop until marriage equality is enjoyed in Belfast and Derry as it is enjoyed in Dublin and Kerry. The north is next."
