Speaking to radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson on KIIS FM, the 27-year-old explained: "We didn't get secretly married, no. She [Cherry] made me this ring out of silvery clay, so we were both kinda wearing rings."
He added: "It also means that nobody will know when we have got married."
Earlier this year, Sheeran announced that he and Cherry were engaged.
