The couple, who have been together for 11 years, invited their family, friends, and Emmerdale co-stars to a party earlier this month. The guests believed they were attending an event at Ripley Castle, Yorkshire, to celebrate Charley's 30th birthday which takes place later this month.
However, it was only when the guests arrived that they were told they were actually attending the wedding of Charley and her long-term partner Matthew.
Speaking to OK! magazine, Charley admitted: "That moment when we announced what we were doing and seeing everybody's reaction is the best moment of my life.
"This way we got to do it totally the way we wanted – it wasn't traditional, we didn't have a sit-down meal and there weren't loads of speeches."
Her husband, 37-year-old Wolfenden, added: "We couldn't have had a better response. People just screamed for about ten minutes."
Charley and Matthew have been together for 11 years and first announced their engagement in 2009 having met on the set of Emmerdale two years earlier. The couple have two children together; sons Buster and Bowie.
