Women will now be able to get advice and treatment from clinicians who will help them with their problems.
Sinn Fein MLA Orlaithi Flynn welcomed the opening of the unit.
She said: "Sinn Féin has long argued for access to treatment for women injured by mesh. We have been in continuous engagement with affected women and the Department of Health and we are glad the department has now moved on its assurances to establish the unit.
"It is now essential that the department moves forward with additional measures regarding diagnostic testing and removes any barriers to treatment. It is my hope that this unit will also provide the full range of support services these women require.
"At all times the department must listen to and act in the interests of these brave women."
