John Dardis and his girlfriend Suzannah Newham were in Cornwall for the weekend and had decided to go on a coastal walk. However, Mr Dardis slipped on wet ground and fell and broke his ankle. Unable to move, he decided to go ahead with his proposal as he awaited for emergency services to arrive. His partner said yes.
Mr Dardis later posted a picture on Facebook of his ankle in a cast next to a bottle of champagne, thanking rescuers for their "great banter" after the accident on Saturday morning.
In a statement on its Facebook page, Newquay Coastguard, who attended alongside Cornwall Air Ambulance, added: "John and Suzie are from Bristol and visiting Cornwall for the weekend, this morning they decided to walk the coast path and John was intending a romantic proposal, however after slipping and injuring his ankle he decided whilst waiting for the emergency services that proposing there and then was going to be more romantic than a hospital bed! He then asked Suzie to marry him. We are pleased to report she said yes!"
