Appearing on ITV's Loose Women, Denise said that she "takes her hat off" to Louise after her admission that a stint on Strictly Come Dancing last year opened her eyes and gave her a new outlook on life.
Earlier this week, after months of speculation, Louise confirmed that she was living apart from her footballer husband Jamie. She said a factor in their decision was because she had rediscovered her love for performing following her appearance on the BBC talent show in 2016.
Discussing the singer's confession, fellow theatre star Denise said she understood Louise's decision because the dance show also helped her to realise her own marriage problems with her now ex-husband Lee Mead.
Speaking to the panel, the 43-year-old said: "I think this happens to a lot of women. I was in a similar situation and there were problems in the marriage before Strictly. I totally take my hat off to her, she’s held a dignified silence until now."
Louise and Jamie have been married for 19 years and have two sons together.
Van Outen was married to Lee Mead for four years before they separated in 2013. The couple have one child together; a daughter called Betsy.
