Throughout that time, the pair's relationship was said to have not been supported by the sports star's family.
Now, the 33-year-old Green Bay Packers quarterback has opened up about the split, admitting that it can be hard to date someone in the public eye.
In an interview with ESPN Magazine, he said: "When you are living out a relationship in the public eye, it's definitely... it's difficult.
"It has some extra constraints, because you have other opinions about your relationship, how it affects your work and, you know, just some inappropriate connections.
"Decreased privacy. And increased strain or pressure or stress associated with relationships. Friendships and dating relationships."
