Earlier this week, the former Spice Girls singer was granted a temporary restraining order against her husband of 10 years. Her allegations against her ex include her being the victim of "multiple physical beatings" as well as blackmail.
Court papers also reveal the 41-year-old described Belafonte as a "large, extremely aggressive, hostile and violent individual" who was "controlling, manipulative and abusive".
After the restraining order was granted, lawyers for Belafonte released a statement calling the claims "outrageous" and "unfounded".
They said: "When the degree to which Ms Brown has gone to create a false depiction of her marriage to Mr Belafonte is uncovered, real victims and survivors of domestic violence will be understandable offended, angry and upset."
They added that the allegations are "nothing more than a smear campaign."
"It's a shame that Ms Brown elected not to proceed in a respectful and amicable fashion in this very private matter," they continued.
"In due course, Mr Belafonte will be filing his response to the outrageous and unfounded allegations made by Ms Brown, allegations which he vehemently denies."
Mel B has claimed that the violence started in 2007, after she finished a successful stint on the US television show Dancing With The Stars. Another incident is said to have occurred in 2012 when she was working on Australia's version of The X Factor. In 2014, while working on the UK's X Factor, she was also said to have been abused by her partner.
The singer has three children, one of which is with Belafonte.
