The research by iReach Insights found that just 7% of 1,000 adults polled actually really like the so-called most romantic day of the year. Perhaps most surprising is the fact that more men than women enjoy the day (10% compared to just 5%, respectively).
While one in five were found to be a slight fan of Valentine's, 38% said they were not really fans, while a further 35% said they were not fans of 14 February at all. When asked for the reasons as to why, 80% said it is too commercialised, 45% cited that things are overpriced, and 28% admitted that they wouldn't necessarily class the day as a celebration.
With a different outlook on the day, of those fans of Valentine's, some 57% said they like it because it is a nice reminder to appreciate a relationship. This was followed by 47% of adults who said it is a good day to remember with your partner. Some 45% said they enjoyed it because it is simply a day to celebrate love.
Of those participants in a relationship, 42% said they would celebrate Valentine's Day on 14 February, but 22% said they would have a celebration on a different day (or weekend), while 36% won't celebrate it at all. Of those that are single, 11% said they celebrate Valentine's Day anyway.
