The actor's wife, Kayte, gave birth to a son on Monday morning. The couple have named their child Auden James Ellis Grammer.
In a statement to People magazine, the couple said: "Both mother and son are doing great. The name was chosen to honor the great poet W.H. Auden, and James is after another great poet and singer James Taylor – two of our favorites."
The parents added that 'Ellis' is Grammer's maternal great-grandfather's name.
"He was a colorful character, to say the least, and we wanted to give the name a second chance," they explained.
Grammer, 61, and 35-year-old Kayte married in 2011. This the couple's third child together; they are also parents to Faith, four, and two-year-old Kelsey Jr. Grammer is also a father to Spencer, 32, Greer, 24, Mason, 14, and 12-year-old Jude from his former marriages.
