Fans of former One Direction singer Liam Payne have sparked further speculation – and confusion – that he is to become a father.
On Monday, the hashtag 'CongratsLiam' started trending on Twitter. Within minutes, fans of the 23-year-old assumed that it meant the singer had confirmed recent rumours that he and his girlfriend, Cheryl, are expecting their first child together.
While many users on the site offered their congratulations, it was then revealed that the 'congratulations' was actually because Payne had secured a new record deal in the US.
Last month, it was claimed that Cheryl and Payne were expecting their first child together after the singer was spotted with a 'baby bump'. Cheryl's mum was then spotted buying baby items, while Payne changed his Twitter bio to say that he was "the happiest man in the world".
A spokesperson for Cheryl has refused to comment on the reports.
