Of the women surveyed, 87% said the would still marry the same person if they had their time over again. This compares to 77% of women (and men) from a Gallup poll in 1949 who would choose the same partner if they had their time over.
In the Woman's Hour study, one in 10 women said they would marry someone different.
Meanwhile, 42% of respondents said that both men and women gave up equal amounts of freedom in a marriage. In a 1951 survey, only a quarter of men and women said the same.
A total of 1,004 women took part in the Woman's Hour poll, which also revealed that almost a quarter (24%) of women, aged 25 to 34, were "extremely satisfied" in the bedroom.
Women in the 55 to 64 age group were the least likely to be "extremely satisfied" (16%) and the most likely to be "extremely unsatisfied" (9%).
When it comes to family, women who earned the most (£40,000+) were 8% as likely as the lowest earners (less than £20,000) to think that having no children was ideal. Graduates (10%) also preferred no children, compared to non-graduates (4%), and similarly those in full-time employment (8%) than part-time workers (2%).
Some 56% of women said that two children was the perfect family size. In a 1938 Gallup survey, 45% of women agreed.
