The television presenter made the admission during an interview on The Jonathan Ross Show, which airs on ITV on Saturday evening, 24 September.
McCall, 48, was discussing how she and her husband were going through a difficult time in their marriage and she wasn't sure if they would be able to get through it. She told the host that after a number of arguments, the couple decided to try marriage counselling.
She said: "He wasn't like, 'Yay, let's go to marriage guidance'. I sat down with him [before I wrote my book] and I said if I do talk about it, it might help another couple. We say it was really great for us, so then it might help somebody else."
She added: "We had the same row. It might have been about different things but it would be about the same thing and it would get to the same point and I thought, 'We're never going to get past this particular row. People have sticking blocks in their relationship and they get stuck at the same point. It worked brilliantly."
McCall and her husband celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
