Speaking to OK! magazine, the reality television star admitted that she has been warned to stay away from Simpson, but she trusts him because they have been friends for years.
She is quoted by the publication as saying: "We've seen each other on and off for years but this time it feels different because we're both happy and he's single. People might say to me: 'Oh, you're just another girl', but people don't know we've always been friends."
She added: "We have an absolute scream, a proper laugh. He's a real lad and we just get on. He's cute."
Defty also addressed her boyfriend's past – last year, Simpson was ordered to carry out 300 hours of community service for assaulting his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, Stephanie Ward, in 2014 – saying: "I'm well aware of his past. Everyone has a past."
