The 57-year-old was found dead at his estate on Wednesday morning.
Mayte, who he married in 1996, told People magazine: "This man was my everything, we had a family. I am beyond deeply saddened and devastated."
Mayte gave birth to Prince's only child, Boy Gregory, however he was born with a rare genetic disorder Pfeiffer syndrome and died a week later.
The pair divorced in 2000.
