The couple have split up several times in recent months after Jeremy admitted cheating on the actress.
Psychologist Judi James accused them of being "lost in their own soap opera".
Speaking to Star magazine she said: "They are caught up in a toxic but addictive soap opera.
"Steph made up her mind to trust Jeremy completely while they were in the goldfish bowl of Big Brother house, but she had no idea how he might behave once they were outside.
"Having decided he was her ideal man, she now seems to be trying to twist any evidence to the contrary to fit her 'idealistic' view.
"Jeremy seems to be blaming his behaviour on his past upsets. If Steph is prepared to accept that, it could be his 'get out of jail free card' to do pretty much what he wants."
