In an interview with new magazine, the 39-year-old singer is quuoted as saying: "No, [Yvonne] didn't [get me]. Maybe in some ways she did, but not in the important ways.
"Partly that's because we got married very young and I didn't really know myself either. With Storm, I've found somebody who understands me and loves me for who I am. That's a great feeling."
He continued: "Being in a boyband at 16, I did what I was told. I tried to be the person people wanted me to be.
"That, and losing my mother very young, and my brothers and sisters emigrating to America, was quite a big deal and it takes a lot of time for that to sink in.
"So I made decisions that weren't necessarily right and I got married very young."
Keating and his former wife were married for 12 years before they separated in 2010 after it was revealed that the singer had been having an affair with a backing dancer. He and Connolly have three children together; Jack, 16, Marie, 15, and 10-year-old Ali.
Following the couple's separation, Keating started a relationship with Uechtritz and they tied the knot in August 2015. Commenting on their union, he said: "It's like the curtains have been pulled back and the light's come in. It's that wonderful feeling of understanding and all of it starting to make sense.
"You start to feel how you're supposed to feel when you're in love. It was terrible, I didn't realise until I was out [of that situation] that I wasn't what I felt I was. Now I feel like this is the time of my life. I feel like I'm in my prime and I've met somebody who makes me feel secure."
