Sharon Edwards, 42, was found guilty following a trial at Manchester Crown Court. She was jailed for life and will serve a minimum 20-year sentence before she is able to apply for parole.
On Sunday 23 August 2015, police were called to the home of Mrs Edwards and her husband, 51-year-old David. David was found dead with a stab wound to his chest.
His wife had stabbed him with a kitchen knife during an argument.
The incident followed months of domenstic violence suffered by Mr Edwards at the hands of his wife, and less than two months after the couple married.
Following Mr Edwards' death, a post-mortem examination revealed bruises and cuts on the victim's body, including stab wounds to his left thigh, knee and right index finger. There was also a shallow wound on his scalp and other injuries to his face, neck, shoulder, right forearm, wrists, hand and left arm. These are believed to have been inflicted by Sharon Edwards.
The day before the fatal attack, Mr Edwards was seen at a local pub. He was bleeding from an injury to his chest and head. It is thought these injuries were also committed by his wife. After leaving the pub, an officer saw the couple and asked Mrs Edwards to calm down as she was shouting and screaming at her husband. She killed her partner later that night.
Following Mrs Edwards' sentencing today, 08 March, Detective Chief Inspector Dean Holden from the Lancashire Force Major Investigation Team said: "I would like to thank the jury for their decision today. This investigation highlights how domestic abuse is not exclusive to age, sex, status or profession.
"David Edwards had been a successful solicitor and a loving father to his young daughter but his life was tragically cut short after a culmination of months of abuse and violent outbursts by Sharon Edwards.
"The especially sad thing about this case is that Mr Edwards was embarrassed by the fact he was being abused by his partner, a woman, and seemed to just accept his situation, ignoring advice from friends to seek help. Had he done so, I imagine we wouldn't be at court today."
He added: "It's too late for David Edwards to get help but if you or anyone you know is suffering domestic abuse at the hands of your partner, help is out there."
