For the boys, James topped the list for the first time with 300 babies given the name, knocking Jack into second place (261 babies). It is the first time in 12 years that Jack has not been the most popular boys name.
Noah (225) was in third place, while new entries in the top 10 included Jake and Matthew.
The statistics, which have been published by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency, also revealed a few of the more unusual monikers given to babies born in the region last year. These include Olaf, Tyrion, and Cruz; while Jackson was the greatest climber for boys' names, rising from rank 145 in 2014, to 75 in 2015.
When it comes to the girls, Emily (233 babies) took the top spot for the third consecutive year, and was closely followed by Ella (197) and Grace (192). Aoife and Ava saw their popularity increase over the year to enter the top 10 most popular girls' names, while the largest climber was Rosa, going from rank 147 in 2014 to 53 in 2015.
Meanwhile, some of the less common names given to baby girls last year were Arya, Elsa, Rita and Suri.
Looking at the statistics, the Baby Names 2015 publication said that blockbuster movies, current celebrities and memorable places continue to appear to be influencing factors for some parents when it comes to naming their newborns.
