According to the Daily Mirror, 23-year-old Malik wants to avoid Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards and as a result, turned down the chance to take part in BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in Exeter. The publication has said the former One Direction singer was booked for the same day as the girl band.
A source is quoted as saying: "It will take the shine off his performance because many people would then just talk about his past relationship. Zayn and his team really want his solo career to be all about the music.
"Once they are both at the same location on the same day, tongues will wag. And if they were to bump into each other, it would make the whole day awkward."
Neither Malik, nor Little Mix, have been officially confirmed in the two-day line-up, but a representative for the singer has now said the claims are "completely untrue".
Malik and 22-year-old Edwards first met in 2011 on the set of The X Factor – the former One Direction member was appearing on the show with the band, while Edwards was a contestant on the series. The couple confirmed their relationship the following year, and in August 2013, they announced their engagement. Their romance ended suddenly in August 2015.
