When it comes to the wedding itself, 72.5% still choose a religious ceremony, while 18% opt for a civil ceremony, and 9.5% choose a humanist wedding. Hotels remain the most popular type of wedding venue (63%), followed by country houses (17%) and castles (8%).
The most popular month to get engaged is December, while couples will wait an average of 18 months between their engagement and wedding. Summer is the most popular time of the year to tie the knot – the month of July in particular this year, with Saturday named as the most popular day to get married.
Elsewhere, when asked for their preference when it comes to wedding gifts, 77% of respondents said they would prefer cash, while 20% said they don't mind what they receive.
