In an interview with the MailOnline's FEMAIL, the 26-year-old former Olympic swimmer spoke about her daughter, Summer, who is now seven months old and how becoming a parent has changed her perspective on life.
She explained: "Motherhood is the best thing ever, but definitely the hardest thing. Any parent that tells you it's easy is probably lying.
"It's definitely difficult but it's just so amazing. They change so much and it's just incredible how she's only seven months old and she's crawling, goes to stand up and has such a personality coming out – it's just the best. She melts my heart everyday seeing her."
She went on how describe how having a baby has changed her as a person.
"I think I'm very different now," she said. "I was never really a worrier. I've always been like, 'It'll be fine, just crack on', especially with things I can't control, and now I worry constantly. It's definitely brought out that side of me that I didn't know I had – the maternal, softer side of me.
"My world now totally revolves around her. I think coming from a sporting background, you have to be completely selfish to achieve success and that's changed. Now I'm completely selfless and everything is for her [Summer]."
Adlington and her husband, fellow swimmer Harry Needs, welcomed their first child together in June 2015. The couple married in September 2014 at The Ashes in Staffordshire, after three years of dating.
