Celine Dion Pays Tribute To Husband

Celine Dion has paid tribute to her husband René Angélil, who has passed away at the age of 73.

Mr Angélil, who was also the singer's former manager, had been suffering from throat cancer. Shortly before Christmas, Dion revealed her husband's condition had deteriorated and that she was preparing for his death.

In a statement released on the singer's Facebook page on Thursday, it read: "It is with deep sadness that we announce that René Angélil, aged 73, died this morning at her [Celine's] residence in Las Vegas after a long and courageous fight against cancer. The family wishes to live the mourning in privacy. Other information you will be provided in the next few days. Team Celine."

Dion took two career breaks to look after her husband after he was diagnosed with throat cancer. The first was in 2000. Last year, the 47-year-old returned to performing following a second hiatus to look after her partner.

Angélil was approached to manage Dion by her parents in 1980 when the singer was just 12 years old. Angélil was 38 at the time. The couple started a relationship in 1987, and became engaged in 1991. They married in December 1994 in Montreal, Quebec.

The couple have three children together; their first son René-Charles, was born in January 2001. In October 2010, having received IVF treatment, Dion gave birth to fraternal twins, Eddy and Nelson.
