Kay, 36, was arrested in September 2015 at the couple's home in East Sussex following an alleged row between the pair. At the time, he was charged with assault by beating and unlawful possession of a stun gun disguised as a torch.
Shortly after the incident, Katona, 35, confirmed the couple's marriage had come to an end, and she would now be focusing on her children.
Appearing at Hove Crown Court today, 11 January, Kay denied both charges. He faces a trial in April, but was freed on bail on the condition that he does not contact Ms Katona except via an agreed third party, and does not enter Crowborough.
Katona and Kay started dating in 2012. They announced their engagement in 2013 and in April 2014, welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Dylan Jorge. In September of that year, the pair married.
While Dylan is Kay's first child, his wife is also a mum to Molly 12, and Lilly Sue, 11, from her first marriage to Brian McFadden, and Heidi, seven, and six-year-old Max from her second marriage to Mark Croft.
