Speaking to the Telegraph.co.uk, the 32-year-old appeared to suggest that producers tried to engineer the couple's relationship by pairing the two together. They were both single at the time.
She explained: "I was single and they put me with the single guy! I was so angry.
"I was determined we wouldn't get together, and then of course you're spending so much time with this person and he was so wonderful... So yes, it was inevitable really."
Tointon and Chigvintsev won the eighth series of the BBC show in December 2010. The following month, she confirmed the couple were in a relationship, but admitted that she "hated" when people discovered they were an item. She added that it was her "worst nightmare."
The couple remained in a long-distance relationship for more than three years, announcing their separation at the end of 2014.
