The pair, who are both contestants on this year's reality television show 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!', were sitting on one of the hammock's in camp, when McCann suggested that they pretended not to know each other and were meeting for a first date.
Taking his hand in hers, the TOWIE star said: "Let's do role play, we've just met."
Shelley, who appeared nervous, then proceeded to try and flirt with his campmate – only to be on the receiving end of teasing from another of their campmates, Kieron Dyer, who said: "I was listening to Ferne and George on their first date, the banter was horrific. George, come on you're a man, up your game. Your conversation skills are horrendous.
"No wonder they're both single, let's put it that way," he added. "If that's their first date banter they could be single for a long time."
As the camp continued to tease the pair – even going as far as to say they would share a kiss in the jungle – McCann hit out, saying: "Shut up, it's not like that."
Shelley also insisted they were just friends, adding: "That's [romance] not what it is at all."
"We're just friends like he is with Jorgie and Vicky," Ferne continued.
