Both have remained quiet about their relationship since the separation, but in an interview for On Air With Ryan Seacrest earlier this week, the Coldplay front man admitted the former spouses have remained on good terms.
The 38-year-old told the host: "Just because a romantic relationship ends, doesn't mean that the other facets of your relationship have to end, or indeed, doesn't mean they can't get better."
He added that the pair continue to put their children first, which has helped them get through some difficult times the past year.
"It's been hard," Martin admitted. "And you know, like, we've gone through really difficult times with it but we've always said these children are our priority."
Martin and Paltrow, 43, met in October 2002 backstage at one of Coldplay's concerts. They started dating shortly afterwards and tied the knot in a private ceremony in December 2003. They have two children together; 11-year-old daughter Apple, and son Moses, aged nine.

Christ Martin has revealed he and his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow have remained on amicable terms following their separation in April 2014.
