Earlier this week, Ameera, his wife of nine years, took to Facebook to publicly criticise her husband, labelling him a "lying, cheating scumbag".
The post, which was later deleted, also asked the journalist: "How could you ruin this beautiful family?"
It is understood Mrs MacIntyre discovered texts and pictures from another woman on her husband's phone, prompting her to hit out at her husband.
However, according to the Daily Mail, 49-year-old Donal has now said his spouse has "got the wrong end of the stick", and that the woman at the centre of the cheating claims is just a friend.
A source is quoted by the publication as saying: "On this matter she [Ameera] has fired first and we can't be sure it isn't a whole lot of nonsense. I have no reason to believe there is any validity to the claims that he is conducting an extra-marital affair. All is not as it seems and everybody has got the wrong end of the stick."
Donal and Ameera, 40, have been married for nine years and have three children together; Allegra, 12, Tiger-Willow, eight, and three-year-old Hunter.
