The rapper, whose real name is Stephen Manderson, made the confession during an interview with The Sun newspaper.
He is quoted as saying: "Sometimes it's easier to understand things when they come from the person who is completely removed from the situation. It's one of the most constructive things I do in my life."
The 31-year-old's comments come following media speculation that he and Mackintosh, 26, were on the verge of splitting, after almost two years of marriage. However, despite having problems in their relationship, he insists they are now closer than ever, and are not going their separate ways.
He explained that the couple have been to therapy together and that they had reached a low point in their relationship – but reports that it was because of his partying lifestyle were false, he said. Instead, he revealed that the pair argued while they were on holiday in Jamaica as they were on a detox break.
"We were at each other's throats. We thought we f***ing hated each other. Then we ate normally and had a glass of wine and it was fine."
In a separate interview with the Daily Mail's 'You' magazine, his wife also commented: "You really can't believe everything you read. Obviously it is stressful having things written about you, especially when they're not true, but I don't get that upset about it.
"When the latest story came out about us, we were visiting where we had our honeymoon. It couldn't have been more wrong."
Green and Mackintosh tied the knot in a private ceremony at Babington House in Somerset in September 2013.
