The 30-year-old, who is currently starring as Aidan Connor on Coronation Street, confirmed the account was genuine to the Daily Star.
He told the publication: "Yes, I'm on Tinder, it is not a fake account.
"What it is," he explained, "I was having a bet with my management that I would go on it. So initially I set it up as a joke.
"I thought I'd give it a go, yeah... it's quite fun. I've not been on any dates yet as I'm only two weeks into it. I have had quite a few matches on it though."
However, he added: "People don't think it is me when I'm talking to them. They think I am catfishing them."
Ward was previously in a long-term relationship with actress Faye McKeever. The couple started dating in 2003 and on their nine-year anniversary in September 2012, Ward proposed. In January 2014, the couple ended their engagement. No reason for the split was given.
