The research, carried out by Halifax, revealed that while 50% of women worry about their ability to save for the future, just 37% of men have the same worry. In fact, 28% of men believe their households' financial situation will actually improve within the next year. Just 23% of women agreed.
Despite their concerns, however, women are found to be more organised by men when it comes to finances. The study found more women are better at managing money day-to-day, as well as making sure they have money set aside and the bills are paid on time. Yet, when it comes to buying something they can't quite afford, women are 6% more likely to purchase the item than men. They are also 8% more likely to admit to dipping into their savings in order to pay for the items.
Commenting on the findings, Nick Young, Halifax Current Accounts, said: "While it's reassuring that some consumers are starting to feel relief when it comes to the financial pressures they have faced over the past few years, one in four do still believe they are worse off than they were in 2014.
"As such, it is important for people to maintain a close watch on their finances, managing their budgets carefully in order to reduce the risk of surprises at the end of the month and make the most of their money."
