'First Divorce Case Filed' Following Ashely Madison Fallout

It is understood the first divorce proceedings have been undertaken in the UK as a result of the Ashley Madison leaks earlier this week.

A group, calling themselves Team Impact, hacked into the dating website – which is aimed at married people looking to have an affair – in July. They then threatened to release the data unless the site was removed. The site remained in use, and earlier this week, it released a large file of data on the 'dark web', which is understood to have included names and addresses of the site's users. A further batch of user information was leaked on Wednesday.

Now, according to The Times, a woman contacted family lawyer Nigel Shepherd at the Mills & Reeve law firm after she discovered her partner's details were among the leaked accounts. He is quoted as saying: "If someone finds out if their partner is set up on a site which exists wholly for facilitating adultery, it's hardly surprising they are taking advice about it."

Ashley Madison, whose tagline is, 'Life is short, have an affair', operates in more than 50 countries and has 37 million users. More than a million of those are believed to live in the UK.
