Last week it was revealed the couple had called time on their romance, with reports surfacing just a couple of days later that Malik, 22, was the one to end the engagement via a text message. Now, sources have hit out at the former One Direction singer not only at how he chose to break-up with Edwards, but also the timing.
An insider is quoted by The Sun newspaper as saying Malik sent his text message on the night Edwards was out celebrating with her Little Mix bandmates because they had reached the number one spot in the charts with their new single, Black Magic.
They said: "This was meant to be Perrie's big night, but it turned into a disaster. Zayn's timing could not have been worse."
Another source previously told the same publication: "It's unbelievable. He's an immature little boy with no thought for anyone else's feelings. Perrie is one of the sweetest girls in the world and she's stood by him through thick and thin.
"But he ended their engagement with one text message and in the two weeks since there's been complete radio silence between them. Who does that?"
Malik and Edwards, also 22, first met in 2011 on the set of The X Factor – the former One Direction member was appearing on the show with the band, while Edwards was a contestant with Little Mix on the series. The couple confirmed their relationship the following year, and in August 2013, they announced their engagement.
