The actress, 44, made the revelation during an interview with The Mirror. Confirming that she would be taking a career sabbatical, Outhwaite added: "I'll have as much time off as it takes to hang out with the girls because it feels like they need me at the moment. What with filming and my theatre commitments, I was literally working from 6am until 7pm or 8pm – and barely seeing my kids."
She added that she doesn't care if her decision jeopardises any acting opportunities in the future.
"It doesn’t even matter; it's much more important to be with my children," she explained. "My kids are much more important than my career."
Outhwaite is a mum to two daughters, from her former marriage to actor Tom Ellis. The couple first met in 2005 and married the following year. Their first daughter, Florence, was born in 2008 and their second daughter, Marnie Mae, was born in 2012. In the summer of 2013, the couple announced their seven-year marriage had come to an end, following allegations that Ellis had been unfaithful. Their divorce was finalised in April 2014.
