Zayn Malik reportedly ended his engagement to Perrie Edwards by a text message.
On Tuesday, it was reported that the couple had split after four years of dating. Edwards, 22, confirmed the news in a television interview shortly after the reports first emerged, but now it has been claimed that Malik, also 22, ended their romance two weeks ago – and they have not been in contact since. It comes just weeks after the couple were said to be planning their wedding and looking at buying a new house together.
According to The Sun's Dan Wootton, a source is quoted as saying: "It's unbelievable. He's an immature little boy with no thought for anyone else's feelings. He ended their engagement with one text message and in the two weeks since there's been complete radio silence between them.
"She's [Perrie] devastated, which everyone understands, but is doing her best to focus on work and to put on a brave face in public."
Malik and Edwards first met in 2011 on the set of The X Factor – the former One Direction member was appearing on the show with the band, while Edwards was a contestant with Little Mix on the series.
The couple confirmed their relationship the following year, but shortly into their romance, it was claimed that Malik had been unfaithful. Edwards chose to stick by her partner, but they were again hit with infidelity claims – the most recent being in March 2015.
Malik was pictured with his arm around another woman, later named as Lauren Richardson, following a night out in Thailand. While he – and Ms Richardson – insisted nothing happened between them, the singer announced just a few days later that he was to leave One Direction. It was later confirmed by his bandmate Liam Payne that he had left the band for Edwards.
