The 42-year-old and her husband, frontman for British band Coldplay, released a joint statement on Paltrow's lifestyle website Goop in March 2014. The post was titled 'Conscious Uncoupling' and revealed that the couple had decided to go their separate ways after 10 years of marriage. Paltrow was heavily criticised for her use of the term at the time, with many referring to it as "tosh" and nonsensical. However, despite the actress using a similar phrase herself within the text of the blogpost – which appeared under the couple's own names – she has now said that she did not write the words.
In a new interview with Fast Company, she said it was her editor, Elise Loehnen, who came up with the phrase – and didn't tell her.
"When I announced that I was separating on the website, [Loehnen] titled the piece 'Conscious Uncoupling' and I had no idea," she is quoted as saying.
Paltrow, 42, and Martin, 38, married in a secret ceremony in December 2003, just days after they confirmed the actress was expecting their first child. The couple had already been together for a year, after reportedly meeting backstage at a Coldplay concert.
They have two children together, a 10-year-old daughter named Apple, and a son, Moses, aged eight.
