According to The Sun newspaper, the group of men were preparing to fly to Berlin for a stag weekend when the incident happened. It is understood the 'bomb' showed up in the groom's bag as it went through an x-ray machine at the airport last Friday (17 July). He was then detained by security staff.
The prankster, who has not been identified, but it is understood to be 26-years-old, then admitted to planting the fake device. He was subsequently arrested and charged under air travel laws.
He is due to appear before Paisley Sheriff Court next month.
A source is quoted by the publication as saying: "It may not have been a real bomb but in the current climate it was a very stupid thing to do. The security staff and police take a dim view of this."
In a statement, a spokesperson for Glasgow Airport said: "We can confirm an incident at the baggage screening area which resulted in police being called."
