On Tuesday night, the couple released a shared statement on Twitter confirming the news.
It read: "It is with sadness that Brian and I have made the tough decision to go our separate ways. We will always care greatly about each other, remain friends and wish each other all the very best for the future.
"We have nothing else to say on the subject and we would like to thank our friends and family for their support during this difficult period. Vogue x".
McFadden released a similar statement on his own account.
The separation comes just a couple of months after the the former Westlife singer described Williams as his "soulmate", while the model admitted the couple had already picked out the name of their first child for when the time arises.
McFadden, 35, and Williams, 29, started dating in May 2011. Just eight months later, in January 2012, they announced their engagement. They tied the knot in Florence, Italy, in September of that year.
