The couple have been the subject of split rumours in recent weeks, but on Tuesday, they confirmed their 10-year marriage had come to an end.
In a joint statement, the pair told DailyMail.com: "After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce.
"We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.
"This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding."
Garner, 43, and Affleck, 42, started dating in 2004, having fallen in love on the set of the movie 'Daredevil'. In April 2005, they announced their engagement. They tied the knot in June of that year, in a private ceremony. The couple have three children together; daughters Violet, nine, and Seraphina, six; and four-year-old son Samuel.
