The poll, commissioned by sunshine.co.uk, asked 2,306 people in Britain how they felt about their partner going on a single-sex holiday. Of those, 69% of men confessed they were "uncomfortable" with the idea, saying they "wouldn't like it". This compares to just 38% of women who said they feel the same way.
Interestingly, 21% of men said they "wouldn't mind at all", compared to 43% of women.
Respondents were then asked what they would worry about the most if their other half was away on a single-sex holiday. For women, the most popular worry was that their partner would cheat on them (43%); this was followed by 21% saying they wouldn't want to fend for themselves, while 17% were worried about their partner's safety. 8% admitted that they would worry about their other half 're-evaluating' their relationship while on holiday, while 5% were more concerned about the money their partner would spend away.
And for the men? Well, concerns about their partner's safety topped the list (36%), and this was followed by the worry that their girlfriend or spouse would drink to excess while away (27%). 21% admitted that cheating was a concern of theirs. In addition, 6% said they would worry that their partner would break the law or end up getting arrested abroad. Just 3% were concerned about their other half running out of money.
Despite the concerns from both sexes, the survey also looked at the potential fallout a single-sex holiday could have on a relationship. For example, 44% of women – and 17% of men – said they had been away on a ladies and lads-only holiday, respectively. However, 19% of men polled admitted that they would consider ending the romance if their partner went on a girls' trip away.
Just 6% of women said they would threaten to break up with their partner over a lads' holiday.
Commenting on the findings, Sue Anderson, sunshine.co.uk, said: "This is a bit extreme – worrying about something that may never happen is inevitable when you're so far away, but if you trust them then you have to trust that they're going to be OK and be faithful to you.
"It's not worth breaking up with someone over. Let them go and have fun, you've got your entire lives to settle down and lead a serious life, have fun whilst you still can."
