Last week, the couple were said to have reached "breaking point" in their relationship, and this appeared to play out in the first episode of the reality television show on Sunday night. The summer spin-off show – The Only Way Is Marbs – saw the cast travel to the Spanish city for a holiday, and it was here where the couple revealed they were having relationship troubles due to Lockie's temper.
The couple spent most of their trip arguing about Lockie's treatment of Armstrong, who finally decided that she had gone through enough. Confiding in her friend and co-star Chloe Sims, she said: "He's been a nightmare, why do I put up with it? He's awful to me. I've been putting put a front on. It's such hard work."
Lockie, meanwhile, confided in his friend Elliott Wright – who told him to work on his anger issues and apologise to his partner. This resolve didn't last long, however, when Lockie lost his temper after his girlfriend became emotional over abusive messages he had recently sent her. He had locked himself out of the couple's house while Armstrong was sleeping.
She criticised him, saying: "The things you text me were disgusting. Someone who's supposed to love me and want to spend the rest of my life with me! What have I ever done to you to get you this angry?"
The TOWIE lad said his behaviour was due to stress as he wanted to better their financial situation. However, he refused to apologise. The next day, he told his friend: "I've got to learn how to deal with it better. I shouldn't have reacted like that. We should be together, I've never been with anyone that's made me feel how she does."
He then decided that he would propose to his girlfriend. After booking a romantic candlelit dinner for the couple, he awaited for Armstrong's arrival. She did arrive at the restaurant, but before Lockie could pop the question, his partner ended their turbulent relationship.
"I can't remember a good thing you've done for me," she confessed. "It's got to the point where it's gone too far. I just feel like we can't be together right now. I'm so down. You've pushed me so far, I can't see a way out of it."
