Nicole Richie, 33, and Madden have been in a relationship for almost 10 years, but earlier this year, reports emerged that the couple were on the verge of divorce. They have not commented on any of the claims, but Richie's father has now defended the couple and said their marriage is still strong.
He is quoted by Hello! magazine as saying: "It's completely untrue. They've bought a new house and the moving van was pulling up at their old house to move to the new one. Hence the story they are breaking up.
"I went over to the new place recently and there were the Pup-Pups – otherwise known as my grandchildren – running around all excited showing me their new yard and their new pool."
The 65-year-old added that he did talk to his daughter about the speculation.
"'Aren't you going to clear [the rumours] up?' I asked Nicole. 'Nah, it's OK,' she said... She's a seasoned Richie.
"But, as I said to Nicole, 'Rumours you don't worry about. It's when they print something and it's true you need to worry.'"
Richie and 36-year-old Madden started dating in 2006. They announced their engagement in February 2010 and they tied the knot that December. The couple have two children together, daughter Harlow and a son named Sparrow.
