Couples planning their big day are more likely to leave people off their guest list when prices start to climb, a new survey has revealed.
The poll, which was conducted by Nationwide, found that brides and grooms-to-be are willing to cut the number of invitations they send out – rather than reduce the amount they spend on the cake, flowers or suits.
It is thought the average wedding now costs couples around £7,500, but this surges to more than £10,000 for one in five couples. However, of those polled, six in 10 admitted they had to cut back on their spending when they were planning their big day.
On where the cutbacks were made, a third said they would take another look at the guest list, while a similar number said they would get rid of the free bar. A quarter admitted they would spend less money on food, but less than a fifth would make cuts to wedding suits or flowers. Meanwhile, the rings are vital when it comes to the wedding, with just one in eight saying they should be the victim of cutbacks.
