According to a source quoted by In Touch, when the supposed affair was discovered, he was written out of the show – and therefore explaining why his character was suddenly killed off last month.
A representative for the actor has slammed the claims as "ridiculous".
They also told The Mirror newspaper: "This is not true. It's an absurd story."
On Thursday, In Touch ran an article – which has since been deleted – which alleged Dempsey of having an affair with a woman who worked on the set of Grey's Anatomy. They quoted an alleged source as saying: "Patrick had an inappropriate relationship with a young woman who worked on the set. Ellen Pompeo found out and was angry because she's close friends with Jillian [Dempsey's ex-wife], so of course, she told her."
Dempsey, 49, and Jillian Fink, his wife of 15 years, announced they were to divorce in January of this year. The couple have three children together; daughter Talula, 13, and twin sons, Sullivan and Darby, aged eight.
