The claims have been made in The Sun newspaper, and come after it was revealed Martin, 38, was close to finalising his divorce with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow.
According to the publication Anderson has asked the Coldplay singer out on a date, with a source claiming: "They're an unlikely combination but there's definite chemistry between them."
They added: "Chris has always been keen to keep his personal life private so, as expected, the blossoming romance is very low-key. His pals are intrigued to see if it turns into a bigger deal."
Paltrow, 42, and Martin married in a secret ceremony in December 2003, just days after they confirmed the actress was expecting their first child. The couple had already been together for a year, after reportedly meeting backstage at a Coldplay concert. They have two children together; daughter Apple, 10, and nine-year-old son, Moses.
